Craving this?

Hey y’all! It’s been a while. School has definitely been taking a toll on me. And it has most definitely inhibited me from having time to blog. Which is quite sad…but I assure you that once October gets started, I will be back to a somewhat, regular weekly schedule instead of a daily one. But…without further adieu…

Here is an awesome little graphic I found on my FAVORITE site. Pinterest. Seriously…if you haven’t heard of it, check it out. In my opinion, it’s like the girlie-version of Reddit. 🙂

Ready…Set…MOTIVATE!

Some days, after a long day at work, you can really feel the weight of your life on your shoulders. And sometimes, it almost seems too much to bear at once and you feel like you want to break down. I most definitely have been in that boat for the past few weeks or so. And even though I am not one to admit it, I am definitely feeling a tad burned out nowadays. Unfortunately for most people, feeling down and out makes you want to stray away from your healthy routines and remain idle and isolated. However, one amazing way I like to reboot my system is reading some motivation via Pinterest. You can find all sorts of wonderful content there that can really make you smile. I could spend HOURS there! I especially love looking at Health/Fitness motivation there. Keep this in mind…if you are feeling blue, working out is a natural pick-me-up that will not only make you feel better inside, but make you look amazing on the outside as well! Here is a collection of my favorites that I found on one of my excavations of Pinterest. Enjoy 😉

The Do’s and Don’t’s of Frozen Yogurt

One of my absolute favorite sweet treats that I indulge in every once in a while is frozen yogurt! I am completely in LOVE with places like Red Mango, Pinkberry, 16 Handles, etc. If you choose the right type of yogurt (low fat/non fat) and decorate the top of your pile with the right toppings, then you will prevent yourself from falling into the pitfalls that most of us do while engaging in DIY frozen yogurt. You know what I mean…especially at Red Mango where it is self-served and they price it by weight, you have complete control over the amount of yogurt and the healthiness of the toppings. Check out these tips below to avoid making unhealthy choices at your next fro-yo extravaganza:

Fruit

My favorite part of getting frozen yogurt is that unlike most ice cream places that only serve sugary toppings, places like Red Mango offers you a variety of fresh fruit. If you are looking for the best, go for berries. The skin of the berries make up most of the surface area, therefore offering you more fiber which will satisfy you better than fruits doused in sugary syrups. Also, dried fruit has a lot more calories as opposed to fresh fruit. So if you are a die-hard coconut fan like me, try for just a teaspoon of it instead of creating a raging blizzard in your cup.

Candy

Okay…okay…the obvious choice you’d make if you weren’t worried about maintaining a healthy diet would be CANDY! I for one would gun for the delish Reese’s bits. But if you are trying not to splurge on your favorite sweet treats, try this trick: some frozen yogurt places offer dark chocolate chips, which actually offer some health benefits if consumed in small amounts. Not only that, but it can help you tame those cravings!

Cookies

A lot of my friends love them some Oreo cookie crumbles sprinkled on top of their fro-yo. Which, in all reality, will only cost you about 30-50 calories depending on your definition of “sprinkle”. However, if you are looking to replace the fats in cookies with some more healthier fats, opt for sliced almonds or any other kind of nuts which will provide you with good nutrients and some added crunch to your snack. But beware…make sure you only add about a tablespoon or so of nuts to your fro-yo. While nuts are good for you, they are very caloric, and those calories can add up!

Syrups…Cereals…Cookie bits…OH MY

Okay…so it is obvious that these three toppings are not the most healthy options. And that’s because…THEY’RE NOT. No getting around it, folks. Just pure sugar. Just think, the sugars in these toppings offer you absolutely NO health benefits…it’s just sugar in its most simplest form.

Well, I hope this has helped you in your quest to develop a healthy snack option that also satisfies a sweet tooth. Because…in all reality…everyone loves a little sweetness in their life. 😉

As always, have a lovely day!

Fab Finds! Abs-olutely amazing!

Hello all! Time for some more Fab Finds…but this time I am discussing a Fab Find that belongs in my Health/Fitness category. Below is a list of ab exercises I found on SuperSkinnyMe.com that has 200 different exercises with added video instruction on how to perform them. Cool, right? When it comes to working out, I always make myself do at least 2 things: cardio and an ab circuit. Your abs are part of your core, and are very important in supporting the rest of your body while it completes everyday tasks and workouts. I try to create different combinations of these moves (one for lower and upper abs, and obliques) every day in order to keep my body guessing and to achieve the results I want. Try them out for yourself! Just click the picture below of the screenshot and it should take you to the website.

Healthy Habits That’ll Keep You Thin

Understanding the ins and outs of nutrition can be difficult—so difficult that even scientists are making mistakes. The best way to maintain a healthy weight is to ignore the scams and quick-fix bogus and to instead focus on developing healthy eating habits. Try out these healthy habits, stick to them, and even if you slip and mess up here and there, if you get back on the wagon you’ll keep yourself on the road to a slim physique.

1) Eat an early dinner

Experts have discovered that those people who eat on a regular basis after 8 pm are more likely to ingest more calories and carry the most body fat. Here’s a good tip: Stop eating 3 hours before you go to sleep. By doing so your body will be more keen to burning fat than creating more of it.

4 Reasons You Should Start Running This Summer

Living with a family whose lifestyle is all about healthy eating and exercise, I have definitely experimented will all sorts of fantastic cardio options for my daily routine. However, one form of cardio that I think is one of the most effective when reaching your fitness goals is running. Now I know that when I mention running, most people don’t respond as enthusiastically about the idea. But there are some serious benefits that you should consider:

1. It’s a stress reliever

This is probably my number one reason why I have taken up running as my main form of cardio this summer. Working at my summer camp, I am constantly faced with stressful situations and by the end of a long work day my brain has completely marinated itself in stress hormones. Since my camp is at a fitness club, I can just walk across the hallway to the gym and start running. As you exercise, your brain releases endorphins, which are the same hormones released when you eat really yummy food or experience love. It makes you feel good! You’d be surprised at how effective exercise is at relieving stress.

2. It can become a fun part of your everyday life

I definitely have some friends who would never consider running fun. But after you get into it, you recognize how great you feel afterwards and the physical benefits you receive from doing it. It becomes more of an activity that you enjoy rather than you feel you have to suffer through. Plus…have you looked at the adorable running sneaker options there are?

I personally own a pair of Nike running shoes that include the Nike ID chip. If you have an iPhone like me you can buy an app that will connect to your chip and act as a GPS and it tells you how fast you run, how far you run, how many calories you burn in a run, and it allows you to connect with other runners in your area. Plus…they come in so many AMAZING COLORS!

3. Running is great to do alone or with a friend

Running is an activity that can be fun and enjoyable to do with a friend, a group, or even just by yourself. For me, running is a great chance for me to have some well-deserved me-time when I am constantly surrounded by people every day. In the midst of being surrounded by my family, my friends, and people at my job, it’s nice to know that at the end of the day I will have an hour or so to myself. This way, running not only benefits your body, but also your mind.

4. Running makes you a better you

By creating a running schedule or even just incorporating running into your fitness regimen a little bit can offer you so many benefits and helps to create a better you. It combines elements of self-discipline, responsibility and commitment, and health consciousness, which, as I said above, benefits you not only physically, but also mentally. I certainly feel a lot more confident in myself and more in control of my body and mind with my 5-day a week running schedule. My dad and I have even signed up for our town’s annual 4th of July 5k.

So I hope you enjoyed this post, and maybe…just maaaaaybe I have convinced you to try some running. Even if you can only go for 10 minutes, do it. Just do it. Trust me, you’ll thank me later.

As always, have a lovely day!
